Alabama could use some good news on the recruiting trail right now. The Crimson Tide's 2027 recruiting class currently holds commitments from just three prospects following the recent de-commitment of 4-star EDGE Jabarrius "Chicken" Garror.
It's only a matter of time before Kalen DeBoer and company go on their patented spring/summer recruiting run and position Alabama to sign a third consecutive Top 5 class. Still, it's only natural for fans to start feeling antsy this time of year.
Some good news could be on the horizon from coveted in-state defensive lineman Avrian Pauley, who plays high school ball at McGill Toolen in Mobile. Pauley recently told Touchdown Alabama's Justin Smith that Alabama is in the lead in his recruitment:
“Alabama, they leading right now. It's a very great program.”

Alabama has the lead for 3-star DL Avrian Pauley
Pauley has excellent size and physical tools at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, which should give him some positional versatility to play either Bandit or the 3T for the Crimson Tide if he ultimately winds up staying home.
While Pauley is currently just a 3-star in the composite, a quick look at his list of offers shows a player who could blow up during his senior season of high school. Along with Alabama, Pauley holds offers from Michigan, Florida State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, among others.
Tide DL coach Freddie Roach has done an excellent job identifying talent early before they've blown up. That was a major benefit in the recruitment of 4-star DL Nolan Wilson a year ago. Alabama was the first program to offer Wilson before he made himself a household name. That early relationship won the day in his recruitment, despite major pushes from other programs down the stretch.
That could be a similar advantage in Pauley's recruitment. Per 247, Pauley has two visits set up for the summer. He plans to be at Alabama over the weekend of May 29th and then will take a trip to Tallahassee to see Florida State the following week.
You can never have enough bodies on the defensive line, and this is a recruitment that DeBoer needs to find a way to win to keep the talented prospect home.
