Alabama 'looking good' in the recruitment of a 4-star 2027 RB in LSU's backyard

As usual, Alabama's 2027 recruiting class has gotten off to a slow start. That's been a consistent theme of the Kalen DeBoer era so far. But there's no reason for panic: in the last two cycles, DeBoer signed top-five classes for the Crimson Tide in spite of the slow starts.

There's no reason to believe that it won't happen again in 2027, too. Especially considering how many elite prospects have Alabama on their shortlists, and how many are setting up official visits for the summer.

Alabama may only have four commitments right now, but a lot more are on the way.

One of them could be 4-star RB Trey Martin, the No. 12 overall player in the state of Louisiana for the 2027 cycle, according to the 247 composite.

Alabama has cast a wide net for the next recruiting class in search of a running back or two. Martin might be the closest to jumping on board.

Martin recently told Rivals recruiting reporter Adam Gorney that Alabama was "looking good" in his recruitment and that the Crimson Tide was the front runner:

Alabama is the front runner for 4-star RB Trey Martin

Louisiana is one of the country's biggest recruiting hotbeds, and Nick Saban built a pipeline into the state for nearly two decades. But breaking into its borders has proven difficult for DeBoer and the new Alabama staff.

In his two full cycles, DeBoer has yet to sign a single player out of the state of Louisiana.

Martin could become the first and could potentially reopen the Louisiana-to-Alabama pipeline that has been closed since Saban announced his retirement.

Alabama extended an offer to Martin back in October. It isn't alone in the pursuit, however. Martin also holds offers from the likes of LSU, Ohio State, Florida State, Auburn, and Ole Miss, among others.

The Crimson Tide will get an official visit from Martin on June 5th; it's currently the only official visit that the 4-star RB has set up. DeBoer and the Alabama staff will look to keep it that way.
