Alabama's 2026 class is small (for now), but it is already elite

Alabama only has six commitments at the moment in its 2026 recruiting class, but every commit is a blue-chipper.

Much has been said about the size of the current Alabama 2026 football recruiting class. The Crimson Tide entered the summer with only five commitments, and just picked up a sixth with 4-star OL Sam Utu announcing his commitment on Monday.

But what can't be said is that the current crop of prospects isn't elite. Of Alabama's six commitments, all are four and five-star recruits. CB Jorden Edmonds is the lone 5-star (for now), while the other five committed are all consensus 4-star recruits.

No other program in the country has a blue-chip rate of 100% like Alabama does:

Fans of rival programs have been quick to point out that, per 247, Alabama ranks No. 48 in the country in recruiting. They are making the same mistake they made last year in using that ranking to point to a downswing in the program under Kalen DeBoer.

A more astute observer might notice that Alabama's average prospect rating of 94.03 is better than any other team. So the Tide's ranking is a quantity, not quality, thing, and the quantity is getting ready to take care of itself.

Alabama is gearing up for a major recruiting run

The misguided opposing fans who are celebrating Alabama being ranked low in the recruiting rankings won't get to celebrate much longer. The Crimson Tide is gearing up for a major run on the trail this summer.

On Wednesday, On3's Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for Alabama to add its second 5-star in the 2026 class in safety Jireh Edwards from Maryland.

If and when Edwards makes his commitment to the Tide, he won't be the last 5-star to do so, either. Alabama is in contention for a host of others, including fellow safety Jett Washington and in-state stars such as WR Cederian Morgan, EDGE Anthony "Tank" Jones, and RB Ezavier Crowell.

May believe Alabama has the lead for 5-star Georgia LB Xavier Griffin, too.

DeBoer is not expected to sign a full 25+ man recruiting class. Most expect the Tide to take 20-22 in this class, which means they probably won't finish with the No. 1 class as a result. But Alabama will very much be in contention to sign the class with the highest average rating per prospect.

The quality of this class is unlikely to be matched. DeBoer continues to prove that recruiting will not be a problem for him in Tuscaloosa.
