Alabama's bye week comes at a critical time for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.
At 6-2 with four games remaining and just a 63% chance to make the College Football Playoff, per ESPN, Alabama has little room for error as it looks to strengthen its postseason resume. The Tide has shown how dangerous it can be when both sides of the ball are clicking, but inconsistency, execution, and health remain legitimate concerns.
November brings a challenging finish, starting with an immediate road test against LSU in Death Valley on Nov. 7 in what is shaping up to be a do-or-die spot for both teams. The Tide then heads to Nashville to face Vanderbilt the following weekend, before returning to Tuscaloosa to host Chattanooga for Senior Day and strap up for Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
It's only Wednesday, but the rest Alabama has gained so far, coupled with the opportunity to sit idle this weekend, gives several defensive and offensive contributors a chance to regroup and get rejuvenated before the most important stretch of the year. From established starters who need to turn their potential into more consistent production to key depth players who could make a difference down the stretch, the final month of the season will reveal which players can rise to the occasion when the stakes are the highest.
With that being said, here are four players who have the best opportunity to give the Tide a much-needed boost heading into November.
4. CB Dijon Lee
Dijon Lee's sophomore campaign up to this point has been a bit of a roller coaster. The highs have included two pick-sixes, one forced fumble, 26 tackles, and several ball-jarring plays. However, discipline and consistency have held him back, with Lee surrendering 17 catches on 31 targets and drawing six times through eight games, including three pass interference calls and three personal fouls.
The rest of Alabama's defense has three interference flags and one personal foul.
As the Crimson Tide enter November, Lee must turn the flashes many are accustomed to seeing into more consistent production in coverage. With LSU in particular presenting Alabama's secondary with several offensive weapons, including 6-foot-6 tight end Trey'Dez Green, discipline and sound coverage will be vital. It'll be interesting to see what adjustments defensive coordinator Kane Wommack and defensive backs coach Mo Linguist make to help Lee clean up the mistakes and become a more consistent presence on the outside during Alabama's final push for the postseason.
3. RB EJ Crowell
Through eight weeks, EJ Crowell has teased Alabama fans with glimpses of what he can do when he's able to line up in the backfield and get the rock in his hands. The five-star freshman has rushed for 216 yards and four touchdowns on 32 carries, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, while adding three receptions for 18 yards. But staying healthy has been a challenge throughout his first season in Tuscaloosa.
After Crowell missed Texas A&M, DeBoer expressed optimism about his return to practice during the bye week.
"We'll see where he's at into the weekend and going into next week. We're hopeful that he can get on the football field and practice, which we think, as the week goes on, will lead to where he can help us out," DeBoer told The Tuscaloosa News.
That update by DeBoer is encouraging but with Alabama looking to establish more consistency on the ground down the stretch, Crowell's status will continue to be a key storyline. If he can stay on the field and earn a larger workload, his aggressive style as a runner could provide this offense with the exact balance it needs to finally get over the hump and become the unit they aspire to be when the stakes are at their highest.
2. LB Yhonzae Pierre
Coming into the season, Yhonzae Pierre was viewed as one of the top returning edge rushers in college football after finishing with eight sacks, 52 tackles, including 14.5 tackles for loss, nine quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, and one pass breakup in 2025 as he emerged as a breakout star for Alabama.
He has seen the same success through eight games of his senior season, recording just 3.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, 26 total tackles, along with one pick-six touchdown. While opposing offenses have often doubled him or provided extra help to contain his impact, Pierre's talent screams first-round NFL Draft pick. Alabama needs that potential to translate into more sacks, tackles for loss, and game-changing plays or the Tide's postseason hopes could be cooked before Thanksgiving.
1. WR Ryan Coleman-Williams
Before missing Alabama's previous two games with a concussion and having a midseason cleanup procedure on his knee, Ryan Coleman-Williams was putting together a strong junior season as one of Keelon Russell's most dangerous weapons. Through six games, the captain wideout led the Crimson Tide with 23 receptions for 415 yards and four scores, averaging 18.0 yards per catch.
With Alabama entering a pivotal November stretch, DeBoer offered encouraging news on the WR1's status, saying "I'm hopeful that he'll be ready for the LSU game." He added that he hoped Coleman-Williams could "give us quite a bit" as he continues to work his way back over the bye week.
Getting Coleman-Williams' presence alone back could provide Russell and the offense a much-needed boost, forcing opposing defenses to add respect to Alabama's vertical passing game and potentially loosen their focus on the run game. On top of that, Coleman-Williams effectiveness down the stretch could play a key role in his pending 2027 NFL Draft decision. A strong finish would strengthen his stock and give him more to consider as he weighs his future. Ultimately, his return could be the spark that helps Alabama close the gap and make a serious push for December and January.
With everything on the line, from player legacies and potential coaching changes, November will reveal whether DeBoer and his staff can get each of these four players in particular — along with the rest of Alabama's roster — to deliver when it matters most.
