Alabama star guard Aden Holloway was arrested on Monday by a West Alabama Narcotics Task Force and charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp, according to AL.com's Nick Kelly.

Holloway was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail and held on a $5,000 bond.

No immediate response was given by Nate Oats or Alabama basketball, but with the Crimson Tide set to make the trip to Tampa to open the NCAA Tournament on Friday against 13-seeded Hofstra, it's hard to imagine now that Holloway will be with them.

Both of his charges are felonies in the state of Alabama.

Not having Holloway would be a major blow for Alabama's chances of making a run in the NCAA Tournament. He's the Crimson Tide's second-leading scorer this year behind Labaron Philon, averaging 16.8 points per game. He's also second on the team in assists with 3.8 per game.

Holloway is one of the nation's most feared three-point shooters, leading the Crimson Tide 43.8% clip from deep.

If Holloway is indeed out for the tournament, which should be expected at this point, then it's a devastating development for Nate Oats and his team. Alabama's hopes of making a deep run were in the hands of its elite backcourt pairing of Philon and Holloway.

Without Holloway, Philon will have to take on more of a load as the only true point guard on the roster. Senior Latrell Wrightsell will likely start next to him in the backcourt, and freshman wing Amari Allen will take on some more ball-handling responsibilities.

Alabama's offense is predicated on breaking down the defense and getting to the rim for either layups or kick-out threes. Outside of Philon, Holloway is Alabama's best player off the bounce, and the offense won't be the same without him.
