When assessing the Alabama Crimson Tide heading into this season, we have to look at where the strengths and weaknesses are on this roster. Alabama should have one of the better secondaries in football. On the other side of the coin, the running game could still be an issue. Is there anything to help rectify this? It will have to be the passing game, even with a new starting quarterback taking over.

USA TODAY Sports' Blake Brockermeyer had great things to say about the Alabama pass-catchers in his latest article. Whether it be Ryan Coleman-Williams, Lotzeir Brooks, or Noah Rogers, Alabama appears to have an elite 1-2-3 in the receiving corps that can hang with anyone. Should guys like Rico Scott and Cederian Morgan make the most of their touches, this should be a special unit in the SEC.
The best part about Brockermeyer's assessment of this unit is how it could help the quarterbacks.
Alabama has plenty of weapons to help bring along the new starting QB
Brockmeyer may have focused exclusively on the pass-catchers, but his take on the situation at hand suggests that Alabama has seemingly one of everything in its receiving corps. It has a transcendent star in Coleman-Williams, a "dependable option over the middle" in Brooks, and "a proven No. 3 receiver" in Rogers. While Scott has talent, Morgan is the one Alabama fans will really need to watch.
The good news is that whoever ends up winning the starting quarterback job between Keelon Russell and Austin Mack will have weapons galore to work with in the passing game. Since both can move a good bit behind the line of scrimmage, it will surely play a part in helping the Crimson Tide overcome the deficiencies along the offensive line. They can even be vibrant parts of the running game, too.
Truth be told, it may be more about strategy and implementation than anything from the coaching staff when it comes to this offense. Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb need to put their weapons into situations where the Alabama offense can succeed time and time again. Frankly, it will require Coleman-Williams becoming steadier, as well as Brooks and Rogers not skipping a beat this season.

Overall, Alabama has a great chance to achieve all it can this season because its offense could conceivably score points in a hurry. Having dual-threat playmakers running point at quarterback, as well as a bevy of strong receivers to work with, only helps. Of course, Alabama needs to figure out how to close out games. That requires a committed running game and a timely pass rush on defense.
Alabama might be elite on both sides of the ball on the perimeter, but it needs work in the trenches.
