Alabama heads to Knoxville this weekend to face Tennessee in the 106th iteration of the Third Saturday in October rivalry.

Both the Crimson Tide an Volunteers enter the game at 5-1, but both have looked like a shell of the teams we saw in the first few games of the season.

Alabama's issues have been well documented on this site since the second half against Georgia. The Tide fell to Vanderbilt in Nashville in one of the biggest upsets of the season, and then had a mostly uninspiring two point win over South Carolina last week in Tuscaloosa.

Some thought Tennessee might be the best team in the country after bludgeoning lower level competition in the season's first few weeks, but the Vols tripped up on the road at Arkansas and then needed overtime to take down Florida at home.

Both teams are looking to get back to playing to their potential. This will be a huge game for both in terms of College Football Playoff loss. A second loss at this point in the season for either will make the path to the playoff murky.

Alabama injury report

Alabama was missing two key WR's this past weekend against South Carolina with both Kendrick Law and Kobe Prentice out. Law was a game time decision, but didn't play. He should be able to give it a go this weekend. Prentice might be more dicey following the head injury he suffered against Vanderbilt.

Tennessee injury report

On Tennessee's last availability report, the Vols listed DB Jourdan Thomas, LB Edwin Spillman, and LB Ben Bolton as out. Starting LB Keenan Pili suffered an injury against Florida and didn't return. We'll know more about his status on Wednesday when the first availability reports for the week are released.

Weather forecast in Knoxville

We should have perfect football weather on Saturday in Knoxville. The projected high is 72 degrees with a low of 44 and only an eight percent chance of precipitation.

Alabama and Tennessee Series History

This will be the 106th iteration of the Third Saturday in October. Alabama and Tennessee have played every year since 1944; it is one of the most important rivalries in the country and must be protected at all costs no matter the future of conference realignment.

Alabama won last season's meeting in Tuscaloosa and have won 16 of the last 17 meetings. Between 2007-2021, the Crimson Tide carried a 15-game winning streak, the longest by either school in the history of the rivalry.

Tennessee broke the streak two years ago in the last matchup in Knoxville, a 52-49 Vols win.

Alabama leads the all-time series 59-39-7.
