The end of the Alabama Women's regular season ended roughly losing five of the last six games, however not many are going to fare well against South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Texas. On the bright side, they did compete well against Texas, keeping it close throughout, unlike against the Gamecocks and Commodores.
Now this team will need to bounce back quickly, with Wednesday being their first game of the SEC Tournament against Missouri. Alabama did win the one regular-season meeting on the road in Columbia, in which Karly Weathers had her career scoring high of 23 points.
Now they meet again, with the winner facing Tennessee on Thursday night. Last season, Alabama's conference tournament appearance was cut short with an upset loss to the Florida Gators. Though it would have been great for this team to have gotten a first-round bye, the path to a possible quarterfinals against Texas is a definite possibility. It is always hard to beat a team twice, but Missouri has really struggled the last month and a half, and this is a team Alabama should be able to put away, especially on a neutral court. This team, I am sure, would love another crack at Tennessee, which beat the Tide in February but looks a little vulnerable as of late.
It was disappointing seeing Senior Day end in a loss for the likes of Weathers, Jessica Timmons, and Ta'Mia Scott, so a run in the SEC Tournament would definitely be a fun way for this group of seniors to go out in conference play.
Looking ahead, if the Tide do pull off wins on day one and two of the tourney, they will get to see Texas again in the quarterfinals on Friday. A couple of wins and another solid performance against the Longhorns would seemingly guarantee a six seed in the NCAA Tournament, and it will be interesting to see where this team ends up during next Sunday's Selection Show.
