In recruiting, sometimes it is important to remember that star rankings are not the end-all, be-all for how prospects are viewed. If you want a true indication of how good a player actually is, take a look at their list of offers and which teams are pushing for them and making them a true priority.
Such is the case for 3-star WR Majay Thompson out of Shelby, NC. While the composite rankings him as the No. 601 overall player and No. 71 WR in the 2027 class, the fact that Alabama and Georgia have both made significant pushes for him should tell you that there are not 600 prospects better than him in this recruiting class.
The 6-foot, 186-pound speedy WR has been a priority target for both the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs, among several others. And while Alabama has felt like it was in a strong position in his recruitment, coming off his official visit to Georgia last weekend, it sounds like the Crimson Tide might now be playing catch-up.
Crest (N.C.) wide receiver Majay Thompson was one of Georgia's most important visitors over the weekend. Now he has some important decisions ahead of him.

Georgia has taken a big lead in the Rivals RPM for WR Majay Thompson
Recruiting has a bunch of ebbs and flows, so it's important not to get too high or too low based on intel, particularly when it comes after a prospect visits a school. Kirby Smart and Georgia have recruited as well as any program in the country for a decade now, so it's not exactly a surprise that they know how to host an official visit.
That was certainly the case for Thompson, and the Bulldogs will be a major factor during his recruitment. The Rivals RPM has Georgia as an overwhelming favorite to land the 3-star WR, putting them at a 91.7% chance.
But this recruitment is far from over.
Kalen DeBoer, Ryan Grubb, and new Tide WR coach Derrick Nix will get their shot with Thompson during his official visit to Alabama on June 12th. He's also planning to take visits to Wake Forest, Florida State, and Virginia Tech, though it has appeared that this will ultimately be an Alabama vs. Georgia battle for the talented North Carolina product.
There's a long way to go here, and Alabama, like Georgia, has typically had a whole lot of success with hosting official visitors. If the Crimson Tide makes Thompson a priority during his visit, Alabama has a chance to grab back the momentum in his recruitment.
