To any Alabama football fans believing that Saturday's game will be an easy Crimson Tide win, I commend your optimism. My take is different. I expect Alabama to win, but I don't believe anything about the game will be easy.
Georgia is a very good football team. Kirby Smart has methodically developed into one of college football's best coaches. Credit to Smart and the program's roster development comes from Georgia knowing exactly what it is. Like all teams, they'll sometimes try trickery, but not often. Instead, they line up on every snap expecting that the opponent isn't tough enough to beat them.
I am not 100% sure that Alabama's physicality will be tough enough to prevail. Only the game can answer that question.
Instead of stressing about what Alabama may not be able to do, I've made a list of what I am not worrying about.
Alabama Football No Worry List
- I'm not worrying about which quarterback will be the most productive. The main reason is that the two QBs are so different. Both can lead their team to a victory. Gunner can be ruthlessly efficient. Keelon is an explosive play-making wizard. I expect both to play well.
- I will not feverishly total the Tide's rushing yards during the game. A Kalen DeBoer team that rushes for 150 yards rarely loses. But Alabama will not beat the Dawgs running between the tackles. Spreading the Dawgs' defense all over the field will be critical.
- The number of snaps given to EJ Crowell will not be on my radar. When he is fully ready, he'll get many carries and will no doubt shine. Until then, I trust the coaches know what he can and can't do.
- Another no-worry is Ryan Coleman-Williams' knee. I doubt his problem will reduce his contribution against Georgia. Alabama football insiders said his knee issue was minor, and on Tuesday, Ryan explained that its use was only precautionary.
- Most importantly, I won't partake in any chatter about Ryan Grubb's and Kane Wommack's supposed deficiencies. They are guys I'm glad we have.
A Bonus No-Worry
- On Saturday afternoon, I will not be glued to the TV while wishing for more quarterback woes for the Tennessee Vols. For me, Tennessee games are hard to watch when the Vols have no chance of losing.
For me, the bottom line is that Saturday night's game will be so exciting that I intend to look forward to it rather than spend days worrying about it. Make up your own no-worries list. It should serve you well.
