Kalen DeBoer answered the question of whether or not he could recruit with an emphatic yes in his first cycle on the trail as the Alabama head coach. He landed a Top 5 recruiting class in the 2025 cycle, pulling in a plethora of blue-chippers, several of whom have looked the part in spring practice and fall camp.
Guys like Dijon Lee and Lotzeir Brooks were stars of spring practice. Lee will have a role on the Tide's defense, and Brooks seemed to be trending toward a rotational spot at WR before an injury that has cost him valuable reps in fall camp.
There's another Alabama freshman who has recently begun generating a ton of positive buzz, enough that it appears he's going to carve out a role as a freshman, too.
247 recruiting/scouting experts Tom Loy and Andrew Ivins highlighted Crimson Tide freshman TE Kaleb Edwards as a guy generating a ton of positive buzz in fall camp, something that was immediately backed up by Bama247's Brett Greenberg:
Alabama freshman TE Kaleb Edwards, who arrived on campus in May, continues to pick up plenty of buzz during fall camp…@TomLoy247 @Andrew_Ivins have heard the same about the 6-foot-6, 264-pounder:

Edwards didn't arrive until May, so he did not have the benefit of going through spring practice. Even still, he has made heads turn in practice immediately with his excellent size and ability as both a blocker and pass-catcher. At 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds, he's a mismatch against everyone he lines up against, something that DeBoer and OC Ryan Grubb will creatively take advantage of.
There's opportunity in the TE room for Kaleb Edwards to make an immediate impact
Alabama's TE room was ultra-thin during spring practice as injuries kept several players sidelined. By the end of spring, the only healthy scholarship player left was redshirt freshman Jay Lindsey. DeBoer remedied that in the Transfer Portal, adding Troy's Brody Dalton and West Virginia's Jack Sammarco during the spring window.
As things stand, senior Josh Cuevas and redshirt junior Danny Lewis Jr. are projected starters this season, but both have been dealing with injuries in fall camp that has limited their reps. It has opened the door for young players like Edwards and fellow freshman Marshall Pritchett to make a move.
Both have taken advantage of that, but Edwards has generated the most positive buzz. He's got the size to hold up to the rigors of the Tide's SEC schedule. His best football is a year or two away, but he's good enough right now to carve out a role in the Alabama offense.
DeBoer hit the jackpot with his first recruiting class. It's going to pay immediate dividends.
