Most Alabama football fans knew to ignore a recent social media post about Auburn wide receiver, Cam Coleman entering the Transfer Portal. The source was a parody account, not worthy of being identified. Coleman is well known to Crimson Tide fans. Alabama offered him in January, 2023. In July of that year he committed to Texas A&M. He bolted from the Aggies that December and quickly chose Auburn.

The former 5-star from Phenix City, AL, is a good player, possibly a great one. He was Auburn's second-leading receiver last season. Coleman or Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton Jr. will likely be Auburn's leading receiver in the 2025 season.

When the spring Portal opened this week, Auburn did have a wide receiver exit. It was walk-on Dylan Gentry, a former 3-star recruit who did not figure into Auburn's 2025 offensive plans.

Hugh Freeze and Auburn football fans often brag about their wide receivers. There is no dispute that with Singleton Jr., Coleman, Malcom Simmons, Horatio Fields, and Perry Thompson, Auburn has a wideout room filled with talent.

Cam Coleman is good bait for social media trolling because the young man has been outspoken. Alabama football fans disliked some of his comments about Alabama during the recruiting process. Last November, he brashly predicted an Auburn win in the Iron Bowl, saying, "It's revenge tour. We're going to their place. We are going to go in their crib and just take over. We are going to have fun while we're doing it." Coleman had a good game in Auburn's loss to Alabama, catching seven passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps he had fun doing it. Auburn players have a lot of practice spinning losses into fun.

For those patiently waiting for the promised insight in this post. It is Alabama Football does not need Cam Coleman. If he did enter the Transfer Portal, he would have to sit out the 2025 season before playing for another SEC school in 2026. Even if that SEC rule didn't exist, Alabama has no room for him. Ryan Grubb and JaMarcus Shephard have such much wide receiver talent outside the Tide's top six, adding another would make no sense.

Alabama Football does not need Cam Coleman or any wide receiver

Alabama is loaded at wide receiver. So much so, six or possibly seven will be rotated. The best will see the field and hopefully, other potential starters in 2026 will choose to return. Adding a Cam Coleman or any other transfer wideout could damage team chemistry.
