For some teams that were selected to make the NCAA Tournament, their time is already over, and they are on the plane ride home. For Alabama, the Crimson Tide are still dancing after a 90-70 win over Hofstra in the first round and are heading into a second-round matchup against Texas Tech on Sunday night.
During the coaching carousel after the 2025 NCAA Tournament, one of the biggest names that floated around was Alabama head coach Nate Oats. Even amongst all the noise, Oats affirmed his loyalty to the Tide, but a potentially opening this season could change everything.
ChatGPT has Nate Oats as "The Best Choice" pick for UNC is Hubert Davis is fired
The UNC Tar Heels just barely made it into the tournament last season, having to win a First Four matchup against San Diego State to actually make it to the first round. However, the Tar Heels fell in the first round against Ole Miss.
Head coach Hubert Davis did the work to rebuild his roster and bring in a lot of talent, including freshman Caleb Wilson. Unfortunately, Wilson suffered a season-ending thumb injury late that kept him off the court for this season's NCAA Tournament. Apparently, the absence of Wilson was bad enough as six-seed UNC fell in the first round yet again this season to 11-seed VCU.
The loss has sent shock waves through college basketball and has many Tar Heel fans calling for Davis to be fired. FanSided UNC site, Keeping It Heel, seems to agree with the fans and even took to ChatGPT to see who could be the best fit for the Tar Heels if Davis were ousted.
The answer came back, and it couldn't be worse for Alabama as Oats was named "The Best Choice" for the Tar Heels. It makes sense as Oats is clearly one of the best coaches in college basketball right now, but the Tide certainly doesn't want to lose him.
ChatGPT seems to think that Oats' modern way of coaching basketball can bring UNC back to the level of excellence it once held years ago. If Alabama wants to keep Oats in Tuscaloosa, there could be some contract negotiations going on, as the Tar Heels could pay a lot to lure him away.
