Disappointing loss to Texas does little to change Alabama softball's postseason outlook

Alabama softball fell to Texas in the SEC Tournament championship game, but still heads to the NCAA Tournament in a great spot.

After the late homerun surge against Arkansas and run-ruling Florida in the semifinals, it was kind of disappointing that the bats went quiet against Texas in the SEC Championship game. Outside of loading the bases in the fourth inning, the Tide had no answers for star Longhorn pitcher Teagan Kevan, who only gave up three hits Saturday evening. Though Saturday didn't go as Patrick Murphy and his team would have liked, everything is still in front of this team, and they did beat Texas in a best-of-three series during the regular season.

With the loss, Alabama is seemingly eliminated from being the overall number one seed in the NCAA Softball Tournament, but they will not leave Tuscaloosa for either the Regionals or Super Regionals until the WCWS in Oklahoma City. The last two Super Regionals have been on the road, so as long as they handle business in the Regional, they will have the crucial advantage of playing at home with the World Series on the line, and we know how well this program historically has done in Tuscaloosa.

The Selection Show is Sunday night, so it will be very interesting to see what three teams will be coming to The Rhoads House next weekend, as well as what region Alabama will face off against in the Super Regionals.

Of course, there are no easy games in the Super Regional, but it may be beneficial for this team not to see an SEC team. This team has hit well for a majority of the season, so it is unlikely that we will see the bats go cold next week in the Regional Round. We know the pitching staff is strong with SEC pitcher of the year Jocelyn Briski and freshman Vic Moten when needed. This is the most excited I have been since 2021 for the softball postseason, as this team has all the necessary pieces to win it all.
