Kalen DeBoer and Alabama’s coaching staff didn't need any additional proof that four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II is one of the most explosive athletes in the 2027 recruiting class. Still, the Crimson Tide commit gave everyone a reminder during his official visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend.

While taking part in photo shoots along with Alabama’s other 12 talented recruits, the Tennessee native effortlessly launched into a standing backflip, drawing attention from coaches, staff members and observers alike. The impressive display wasn't just a social media-worthy moment—it was another example of Simon’s athletic traits that made him one of the most coveted defensive prospects in the country.

At 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, Simon possesses the rare combination of speed, size, and explosiveness that college defensive staffs spend years searching for. These traits were on full display this past fall during his junior season at Brentwood Academy, where he recorded 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, one interception, one pass deflection, and a blocked kick. His athletic versatility extended beyond defense as well, as he added 64 rushing yards, one touchdown, and 129 kick return yards.

Simply put, Simon’s is the type of multidimensional athlete capable of impacting the game in every phase, which helps explain why DeBoer and Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack made him such a priority early on this spring in the Crimson Tide's recruiting cycle. And with his raw makeup, he's drawn comparisons to San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowl LB Fred Warner, projecting as the kind of prospect who could develop into a difference-maker in Tuscaloosa at the next level, capable of thriving in a variety of defensive roles while continuing to expand his game.

Simon was a massive recruiting win for DeBoer and the Alabama staff. He took what is expected to be his only official visit of the summer this weekend as he appears to be fully locked in with the Crimson Tide.
