Alabama baseball's season came to an end with a quick flameout in Omaha. Two games, two blowout losses. The Crimson Tide was non-competitive against both Oklahoma and Texas in the College World Series. It was a disappointing effort to cap what had been a spectacular, ceiling-busting season for Rob Vaughn's club.

And that's what ultimately will be remembered about this season. Not being outscored 23-2 in the two losses, but getting to the College World Series for the first time this century. This team broke down the door and laid the foundation for what's to come for this program in the future.

Star shortstop Justin Lebron had a lot to do with that. It might not have been the junior season he expected to have, but he was a huge part of the team's on-field success and a huge part of setting the table for a brighter tomorrow.

"I told Bronny at the end of this thing - phew, I told myself I wasn't going to do this - that guy making a decision to stay when nobody else in college baseball would have is what's changed the trajectory of Alabama baseball, both for the short term and the long term," Vaughn said.

Justin Lebron's decision to stay at Alabama changed Alabama baseball's trajectory, per Rob Vaughn

Lebron had multiple chances to leave. He committed to a different coaching staff as a high school recruit, but he chose to stay and trust Vaughn's vision. Over his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa, Lebron became one of the best players in college baseball and one of the most hyped MLB prospects. At one point last season, he was projected to be the No. 1 overall pick.

Lebron could have entered the Transfer Portal after last season and become the highest-paid player in college baseball. He took a pay cut to stay in Tuscaloosa instead because this program meant a lot to him. Those are the types of players you can build around, and the types of players who build the culture for years to come. It helps when those players are of the caliber of Lebron.

It also helps when you have a coach like Vaughn, who is a culture builder and whom the players can believe in.

"He pretty much took me in like I was his own son, treated me like I was his own son. I looked up to him like my father, really," Lebron said about Vaughn. "Just the fact that he's been there for me when I was at my lowest of lows and just struggling and all that stuff. I'm really grateful for him."

Players like Lebron don't come around very often. He's not replaceable in terms of his impact and overall ability. But his decision to come to Alabama, and more importantly, his decision to stay at Alabama when he could have transferred, will resonate for years to come with other high-end prospects.

It took Alabama 27 years to get back to the College World Series. It won't take them another 27 years to get back. Vaughn has built the culture, and players like Lebron set the stage for the future of Tide baseball.
