It was always going to be a rough Monday for Kalen DeBoer, and we haven't even gotten to Paul Finebaum's show yet.
It got started quickly on ESPN's Get Up with former NFL QB turned analyst Dan Orlovsky ripping DeBoer to shreds over Alabama's performance against Florida State on Saturday.
It wasn't just that Alabama played poorly and looked totally unprepared. What has become increasingly more obvious with more and more people poring over the film is that the Crimson Tide just didn't play hard. That's more difficult to accept than just poor performance. Especially after an offseason full of big talk that's now been replaced with inaction.
Orlovsky didn't pull any punches.
"If Nick Saban watched this tape back yesterday, he would have kicked some of these kids off the team," Orlovsky said.
Orlovsky then questioned whether DeBoer would even survive September. You can watch the clip below:

Kalen DeBoer is facing real heat at Alabama for the first time
Orlovsky's words are hyperbolic in that DeBoer isn't going to get let go this month. He probably won't be let go after this season, either. But the reality is that he's facing real heat for the first time.
Last year, DeBoer was essentially given a mulligan. He might have thought he got heat for the loss to Vanderbilt and the loss to Oklahoma, but for the most part, Alabama fans and media had moved on, chalking last season up to a difficult transition.
But all the excuses are gone now. There's no excuse for what Alabama put on tape against Florida State on Saturday. Players showed minimal effort, like they were just going through the motions. It wasn't close to good enough.
Florida State is certainly an improved team from the 2-10 version from a year ago. Perhaps as the months pass, we'll look back and think a little differently on this matchup as the Seminoles could be a playoff team.
But what won't change is how poorly Alabama played and how poorly they were prepared. Losing games happens. Sometimes you get outplayed. Sometimes things happen that are completely out of your control.
The only thing you can control is the effort you give. And it's clear that substandard effort is accepted by this coaching staff. Guys should have been yanked off the field mid-game for it. Instead, it never even looked like DeBoer was that upset by what he saw on the sideline.
It's that part that is completely unacceptable. And it's that part that he'd better fix, or he's going to get a one-way ticket out of Tuscaloosa.
