Most coaches have incentives in their contracts tied to March Madness. Nate Oats isn't any different.
The 7th-year Alabama head coach has some money at stake during the Crimson Tide's NCAA Tournament run.
Alabama opens the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon against 13-seeded Hofstra. If it wins, it will advance to the second round on Sunday to face the winner of Texas Tech/Akron in the Round of 32. A second win would push the Tide into the Sweet 16 for the third straight season, and the fourth time in five years under Oats.
Alabama has become a second weekend mainstay in recent years, but will have to do it this year without star guard Aden Holloway.
The further Alabama goes, the more money in the head coach's pocket.
Here's what Nate Oats can earn in bonuses during the NCAA Tournament
For just making the NCAA Tournament, Oats earned a $50,000 bonus. He could have earned an additional $50,000 by winning either the SEC regular season or tournament titles; it would have been $100,000 for both.
If Alabama beats Hofstra on Friday, it will trigger a $25,000 bonus for Oats. He gets $25,000 per NCAA Tournament win, so if the Crimson Tide gets to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, he'll earn $50,000 in bonuses.
The biggest bonus opportunities would come if Alabama makes it to the Final Four. Getting to the Final Four would trigger a $300,000 bonus for Oats, something he led the Crimson Tide to for the first time two years ago.
If he leads the Crimson Tide to the National Championship - the first in program history - he would receive a $500,000 bonus.

Another key note in Oats's contract: his buyout number drops from $18 million to $10 million effective April 1st of this year. That number drops all the way down to $4 million a year later.
That means Greg Byrne should be working on another extension for Oats, one that likely includes some NIL assurances to keep him happy and in Tuscaloosa for the foreseeable future.
