It has been all downhill for Mike Norvell and Florida State since they were left out of the College Football Playoff in 2023. The Seminoles had various opt-outs for the bowl matchup against Georgia and suffered a 60-point beatdown at the hands of the Bulldogs.

Florida State never really recovered from it.

Coming off a 13-win 2023, the 'Noles plummeted to the cellar in 2024, going 2-10 and only beating one team from the FBS level. They suffered blowout loss after blowout loss, and fans called for Norvell's head despite his being rewarded with a robust contract extension before the season.

There has been cautious optimism among the Tallahassee faithful heading into the 2025 season. With new coordinators on both sides of the ball and a slew of new transfers, including a promising dual-threat QB in Tommy Castellanos, there's reason to believe Florida State will be better this season.

But the optimism has quickly faded before the first game of the season. Florida State released its initial depth chart for the 2025 season, and if you listened closely from anywhere in the country, you could hear a collective groan from Northern Florida.

Florida State fans are losing their minds over the team's depth chart

The consistent theme in the comments of the depth chart release by the official FSU football account is seen above. They have completely turned on Mike Norvell and don't expect him to make it in Tallahassee much longer.

Perhaps that's the best solution. In fairness, Florida State's starting offensive line actually looks pretty solid. There's a ton of starting experience in that first group; they just haven't played together yet. The depth is a concern, but that's a concern nowadays at most places.

Two Alabama transfers - Roydell Williams and Earl Little Jr. - catching strays from an FSU fan who doesn't seem all that thrilled that they are listed as starters.

Squirrel White and Duce Robinson could prove to be a pretty formidable 1-2 punch at WR if Tommy Castellanos can get them the football consistently.

It's crazy how much can change in one year's time. Norvell was once pitched as a potential replacement for Nick Saban at Alabama. Now, he's probably one bad year away at FSU from being on the unemployment line.

And a four or five-win season would do it for Norvell, regardless of the hefty buyout the 'Noles would have to pay.

Recruiting has certainly not been up to standard in recent seasons for Florida State. That's why the Seminoles have had to live almost exclusively in the Transfer Portal to build their rosters, which can lead to blowup seasons like they had a year ago.

Woof - that's a lot of recruiting misses.

And that's how bad things are going in Tallahassee. The fans are calling to bring back Jimbo Fisher, completely ignoring the fact that Florida State's slide started on his watch, with his complete blind spot when it came to offensive line recruiting.

Fisher's final Florida State team went just 7-6. Since then, the Seminoles have finished five of the last seven seasons with losing records. It's easy to see why the fans are pretty jaded at this point. Based on their reactions to this depth chart release, another losing season could be in the cards in Tally.
