After spending two seasons with Alabama, former 4-star recruit Noah Carter elected to enter the Transfer Portal after the season despite carving out a bigger role for the Crimson Tide later in the year.

He landed at Georgia Tech, racking up three sacks in four games despite being hampered by ongoing injury issues.

But his breakout season is now over, and the former Alabama edge will be back on the open market this offseason.

Georgia Tech beat reporter Kelly Quinlan reported on Saturday that Carter had been removed from the team:

No immediate reason was given for Carter's dismissal from the team. Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key will likely be asked about it after the Yellow Jackets' matchup against Pitt on Saturday night.

Noah Carter's decision to transfer from Alabama ended up not working out for either side

Carter's decision to transfer was one of the more surprising departures for Alabama this offseason. The former 4-star recruit had seen significant playing time over the second half of the season and looked to be in line for a big role for the Crimson Tide this year.

He earned a starting role for Georgia Tech and was playing well before injuries forced him to the sideline.

Alabama could have certainly used Carter this season, with injuries to both Justin Hill and Desmond Umeozulu causing the Crimson Tide to be pretty thin on the edge. With those guys banged up since the end of September, Alabama hasn't gotten the same amount of pressure on opposing quarterbacks that they were getting early in the season.

Yhonzae Pierre has been playing through his own injury issues, and Devan Thompkins, who is more effective on the interior as a versatile chess piece for Kane Wommack, has been forced to play the majority of his snaps at defensive end instead.

Depending on the reasoning for Carter and Georgia Tech's split, I would expect the former Tide edge rusher to be in high demand in the Transfer Portal this offseason. He's a super-talented player who had issues pretty quickly with the Yellow Jackets.

In the first game of the season, Georgia Tech lost to Colorado in a stunner in Atlanta, and emotions boiled over right after the game, with Carter having to be forcibly restrained by head coach Brent Key from going after a Colorado player:

Hopefully, Carter can get things figured out and learn from his mistakes. He'll get another chance somewhere, and if he can avoid any on- or off-field drama, he should be highly impactful.
