In his third season on a two-way contract with the NBA's Boston Celtics, former Alabama guard JD Davison has been awarded the G-League MVP after a terrific season for the Maine Celtics.

Davison averaged 25.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game on 48% shooting from the field and a career-best 33% from the three-point line. Davison's impressive season helped lead the Maine Celtics to the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.

In Maine's first playoff game on Tuesday night, Davison led the Celtics to a 135-115 win over the Capital City Go-Go (the G-League affiliate of the Washington Wizards). Davison led the way with 38 points, 4 rebounds, 12 assists, and 3 stocks (steals + blocks).

Davison's big year with the Maine Celtics might help him finally earn a full roster spot on an NBA roster. That might not be on a team as deep as the Celtics, but someone out there could give him the opportunity he has been looking for.

In three years as a two-way player, Davison has played 32 games with the Boston Celtics and logged 156 total minutes. He has scored 55 NBA points and produced a 2-to-1 assistant-to-turnover ratio.

Davison's current two-way contract, paying him just under $600,000 per season, will expire at the end of this season. He will be free to find another home, if a full roster spot is offered to him by one of the other 29 NBA franchises. You would think after earning MVP in the G-League that those offers will come this offseason for him.

Davison is an Alabama-native and a 5-star recruit coming out of high school. He signed with the Crimson Tide and spent one season in Tuscaloosa before jumping to the NBA. Davison averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game during the 2021-22 season as the Crimson Tide made the NCAA Tournament as a 6-seed and lost in the 1st Round to Notre Dame.

In the 2022 NBA Draft, Davison was selected by the Celtics with the 53rd overall pick.
