Former Alabama shortstop Jim Jarvis got the call of a lifetime on Wednesday.

The Atlanta Braves selected him to the MLB roster on Wednesday while designating OF José Azócar for assignment.

Jarvis was acquired by the Braves at the Trade Deadline a year ago in a deal with the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers drafted Jarvis out of Alabama in the 11th Round of the 2023 Amateur Draft.

Jim Jarvis set to make his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves

Jarvis was a solid player at Alabama, more known for his glove than his bat. But it's his ability at the plate for AAA Gwinnett that has drawn the attention of the Braves this year.

Jarvis, who batted just .262 across four seasons with the Crimson Tide, has hit .305 with a .418 OBP this year in Gwinnett.

The Braves are currently in Seattle heading into the final game of a three-game series with the Mariners on Wednesday afternoon. Jarvis will make the trek out to Seattle, but it remains to be seen if he'll make his major league debut this afternoon or not.

Following the rubber match against the Mariners, the Braves will be off on Thursday before heading to Los Angeles for a three-game weekend series against the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. That's a more likely time for Jarvis to make his MLB debut. A native of San Diego, this would allow Jarvis to make his first big league appearance in his home state.

UPDATE: Jarvis will make his MLB debut this afternoon against the Mariners. He's starting at shortstop and batting 9th:

Jarvis' stock has been trending up ever since he was traded to the Braves a year ago. He got off to a quick start, hitting .333 in his appearances following the trade, and that hot streak has continued into this year with AAA Gwinnett.

The Braves currently have the best record in baseball, and Jarvis will get a chance to carve out a role on the big league club.
