Former Alabama superstar in line for $250 million contract extension this summer

The season came to an unceremonious end for the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night as they were blown out by the Orlando Magic in an NBA Play-In game for the 8th seed in the playoffs.

But one bad loss doesn't change the fact Charlotte made a significant stride forward in 2025-26, winning 44 games in the regular season, the most for the franchise in a decade. A big reason why was third-year former Alabama superstar Brandon Miller, who had a healthier season and averaged over 20 points per game while connecting on a career-high 38% from three.

The sky is the limit for the 23-year-old, and he's in line to get paid like it.

After finishing up his third NBA season, the former No. 2 overall pick is now in line for a rookie-scale extension, the max of which could be for five years and worth up to $250+ million, depending on the salary cap for next season.

Miller is eligible to sign for up to 25% of the salary cap, with an 8% salary increase each season, with an average annual value over the life of the contract at $50 million per season.

Brandon Miller is likely to sign the largest NBA contract in Alabama history this offseason

Even if the Hornets can successfully negotiate for less than the full max with Miller to try to maintain some cap flexibility with LaMelo Ball's future extension, and Kon Knueppel's down the road, he's still in line to more than double the biggest contract signed by an Alabama player in NBA history.

That is currently held by Collin Sexton, who signed a 4-year, $72 million contract with the Utah Jazz after being traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2022.

A happy compromise for Miller and the Hornets probably puts him somewhere in the $175-$200 million range for his rookie extension, though his two-way ability and continued growth could put him in line for the full max.

It should be a fruitful summer for the former Tide superstar.
