The college football world was rocked yesterday with the news of Michigan firing head coach Sherrone Moore and the subsequent details that followed the dismissal.
With the Michigan job opening, rumors quickly began to fly about who would be the name that the Wolverines would target for the opening and wouldn't you know it, Kalen DeBoer, was one of the first ones on nearly every 'Michigan coaching hot board'. It's something that most Crimson Tide fans don't believe will happen, but no one can truly rule it out.
ESPN college football analyst former Tide quarterback Greg McElroy said that Alabama would be in a tough situation if DeBoer left after just two seasons.

“If he goes, I’d be disappointed, because I don’t think you can get better than him. I really don’t.
I’d be very disappointed, as an Alabama fan, if he left. It’d be crushing frankly, because…
Alabama shouldn't want to be part of this carousel
It's been a wild ride on the coaching carousel, from the love triangle between Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss and LSU, to the fact that two coaches are balancing getting their old team ready for the playoffs while trying to handle roster building and staffing for their new team.
It's December 11, three weeks from the opening of the transfer portal and national signing day is a week in the rear-view mirror. There is a lot going on right now as DeBoer and his staff prepare for aplayoff game on the road next Friday, while also starting to formulate a plan for building out the roster in the 2026 season.
McElroy knows that, despite how great the Alabama job is, it's not going to be easy to hire a new coach that will make the fan base happy this late in the cycle. DeBoer hasn't had a perfect run in Tuscaloosa, but he has Alabama in the playoffs next year and has the No. 2-rated recruiting class in the country signed.
The Crimson Tide are on the right track
DeBoer is putting his stamp on this team and with the young talent he has coming into the program, Alabama is set up to be front and center in the national conversation again.
Nick Saban was so good at this that it's made Alabama fans think winning championships is easy. It isn't easy, and it wasn't easy for Saban. He just made it look easy. McElroy sees that Alabama is on the right trajectory with DeBoer, especially now that he's gone through the adjustments and dealt with some tough times.
The only thing Alabama fans should want DeBoer to focus on right now is getting the Tide ready to avenge an earlier loss to Oklahoma and knock the Sooners out of the playoffs next Friday.
