One of the key moments in Alabama's massive summer recruiting run was the flip of Iowa State 4-star QB Jett Thomalla in June. Thomalla may not be the highest-ranked prospect in the Tide's impressive 2026 class, but he filled a major need as Kalen DeBoer and company finally found their QB in the class after months of searching.
Thomalla is currently ranked as the No. 232 overall player in the 247 composite, but could see his stock steadily rise in the coming months. Thomalla is coming off an incredible junior season at Millard South in Nebraska and was impressive at the Elite 11 last month, right after flipping to the Crimson Tide.
Brandin Cooks and Rashid Shaheed were impressed with Jett Thomalla
Thomalla also drew rave reviews over the weekend from a couple of NFL WRs, who attended a camp at Thomalla's high school in Omaha. New Orleans Saints wide receivers Brandin Cooks and Rashid Shaheed caught passes from Thomalla in a workout, and they both came away impressed with Alabama's future QB.
"He's throwing missiles," said Cooks. "There's no surprise why he's going to Bama. I think he's going to be great the way he's coming out here slinging that ball."
"He came in and he was slinging it man," said Shaheed. "He's super talented, I see why he's rated as highly as he is, and committed to Alabama, which is one of the top programs in the country. I see why he's had success at the high school level, and I expect the same throughout college."
Throwing to a couple of well-known professional receivers can be nerve-wracking for a soon-to-be high school senior. But if Thomalla had any anxiety, Shaheed didn't see it:
"He was actually so impressive we didn't even have to do that," Shaheed said in reference to offering words of encouragement to help Thomalla calm his nerves. "He was super confident, and you could see that. He was excited to be out here with us and come out here and have a good time and compete."

Thomalla has the size and arm strength to make all the throws. He'll also add to a talented Alabama QB room, and with the future looking bright with 5-star freshman Keelon Russell ready to take the reigns in 2026, Thomalla should have time to sit back and develope for a couple of seasons before he is called upon to start.
