Alabama Football quarterbacks have had great success in Super Bowls though many college football fans don't know it. The reason is the success happened so many decades ago. Bart Starr was the Super Bowl winning quarterback in 1967 and 1968. He was named the MVP in both games. Starr did not have an impressive Alabama Football career. In three of his four seasons he threw less than 100 passes. His Alabama Crimson Tide career, passing accuracy was just 54.4%. His final season in Tuscaloosa, Alabama lost every game.

The most famous Super Bowl an Alabama football quarterback won is well known. That is because days before the game Joe Namath guaranteed his underdog New York Jets would beat the Baltimore Colts. Namath was also a Super Bowl MVP when the Jets beat the Colts in 1969. Joe Willie played on bad knees throughout his NFL career and still passed for over 27,000 yards.

In the 1977 Super Bowl, Ken Stabler led the Oakland Raiders to a 32-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Stabler ran the ball more than he threw it in three seasons for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Even though he did not have a big arm, he was accurate and no pressure was too much for Kenny in the NFL. He passed for almost 28,000 yards in a 15-season NFL career. Until Tom Brady, Stabler held the NFL record for quarterbacks leading their teams to consecutive conference chanmpionships. He quarterbacked the Raiders to five conference championship games from 1973 to 1977.

The most Super Bowls won by a quarterback belongs to Tom Brady, with seven. Alabama's three Super Bowl winners combined for four Super Bowl wins. The Alabama Crimson Tide has a long way to catch Michigan's count of seven, provided by Tom Brady. Alabama can still set a new record in Super Bowl LIX. Going into Sunday's game, only two schools have had three Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks; Alabama and the Purdue Boilermakers.

Purdue's three Super Bowl winners are Len Dawson, Bob Griese, and Drew Brees. If the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs, Jalen Hurts will give the Crimson Tide its fourth Super Bowl winning quarterback.

If Jalen Hurts and the Eagles win, the Oklahoma Sooners will quickly claim part of the honor. Don't let that noise mislead. Hurts is first and foremost an Alabama Crimson Tide man.
