Jessica Timmons was "Her" Sunday afternoon, fueling a much-needed win over Florida to end a three-game losing streak. This team has not been the best on the road, and despite having multiple 10+ point leads, had to fight hard to leave Gainesville with a 76-71 win.
Timmons led the team with a career high 34 points, hitting seven of 10 shots from beyond the arc. Ta'Mia Scott had another big day, putting up 21, hitting five of eight from beyond the arc. The Tide were resilient against a Gators team that has been playing well as of late, overcoming a 12-0 fourth quarter run as well as Essence Cody fouling out with over six minutes left in the game.
This was an important win for a team that needs confidence going into their final week of the SEC regular season before heading to Greeneville for the conference tournament. Kristy Curry's team will travel to Nashville to take on Vandy on Thursday before finishing off the regular season next Sunday against Texas. Though it is wishful thinking at this point, it would be great for this team to pull off a major upset, not only to get the fourth-ranked win of the season, but also to help with tournament seeding and where they will travel to for the first two rounds of the tournament.
Though it is likely to change after the conclusion of this weekend, currently, Charlie Creme has Alabama as a six seed in the Durham region. Though Duke is a great team, it would be about as ideal of a matchup as possible for a team looking to get out of the first weekend of the tournament for the first time since the 1997 season.
The battles of the SEC should have this team ready when it matters the most, and getting to see teams not in the conference may be the best thing for this Crimson Tide team, which is looking to enter the conversation as a national power.
