Kalen DeBoer was happy to get Ryan Grubb back on his staff after a one-year stint in the NFL, and in the first half of the Crimson Tide’s SEC opener against Georgia, Alabama fans saw why. Grubb’s offense, with Ty Simspon at quarterback, helped Alabama jump out to a 24-14 lead.
Simpson’s improvement from his Week 1 loss to Florida State has been immense, and Grubb deserves a share of that credit for sure. However, the crisp play of the quarterback isn’t the only reason that Grubb’s offense was so fun in the first half against Georgia; it’s also the new wrinkle he unveiled in the red zone of the team’s final drive of the half, and the new playmaker he got involved.
On first-and-10 from the Georgia 13-yard line with 39 seconds remaining in the half, Simpson took the snap from under center and swung the ball out to the perimeter, to his 6-foot-7, 360-pound left tackle Kadyn Proctor. Proctor rumbled forward for 11 yards to the Georgia two and set up a Simpson touchdown run on the next play.

The internet always loves a big-man touchdown, and while Proctor didn’t reach paydirt, social media still exploded after the impressive catch-and-run.

Proctor was featured on Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List coming into the season, not just for his immense size and ridiculous strength, but for his speed at 360 pounds. Proctor ran with more power than quickness while bulldozing the Bulldogs, but his soft hands and quick feet were on full display.
Social media had its jokes, but the broadcast had a potential explanation as to why Alabama unveiled this new wrinkle in such a big spot against Georgia.
Kalen DeBoer rewarding Kadyn Proctor for weight loss
Proctor had a slow start to the season, struggling in pass protection in Week 1, and that may have been because he was a bit too big. As ESPN's Holly Rowe explained on the broadcast, Proctor had a weight loss goal of reaching 360 pounds as playing weight. This week, he weighed in at 359, so the offensive touch may have been a way to reward the big fella for all his hard work.
Well, after Proctor's impressive run with the ball in his hands, Grubb may consider making it a more regular aspect of the offense going forward because there aren't many players in the country who can tackle the biggest offensive tackle in the country.
