After recently putting an early bow on one of the nation's top 2026 recruiting classes, Kalen DeBoer and Alabama turned their attention to the 2027 cycle and landed a top target on Tuesday.

4-star TE Colt Lumpris from Lawrenceville, New Jersey announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide:

Lumpris is Alabama's fourth commitment already for the 2027 class as DeBoer and company get off to a quicker-than-usual start. The 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes were mainly built in the summers of 2024 and 2025, respectively, so Alabama is ahead of the pace in 2027 so far.

Lumpris is the third four-star, joining in-state stars Jabarrius Garror (Edge) and Trent Seaborn (QB). 3-star Nash Johnson will likely end up as a composite four-star down the line, judging from his impressive list of offers.

Colt Lumpris is another intriguing, athletic TE for Alabama

DeBoer continues to stack talented bodies in the TE room for Bryan Ellis to mold and play with.

In the 2025 cycle, Alabama landed impressive prospects in Kaleb Edwards and Marshall Pritchett, both of whom have carved out roles as true freshmen. In the 2026 cycle, Alabama recently signed 4-star Mack Sutter, another impressive athlete who can be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

DeBoer has shown a preference for multiple tight end sets, and he loves the bigger bodies who can catch passes and block on the edges to help spring the running backs.

Lumpris is a two-way player in high school, thriving as both a tight end and edge rusher. 247's Hudson Stanish recently compiled the scouting report for Lumpris, where he said the following:

"- High-upside two-way standout at tight end and edge rusher who could feasibly play either side of the ball at the P4 level. Verified hovering a shade over 6-foot-6, 225 pounds with long arms and massive hands. Possesses immense bulking capacity.
- Unique fluidity of movement for a player of his size. Lacrosse multi-sport experience clearly translates, considering his ideal short-area quickness and redirection capability.
- Clear red zone threat who will battle at the catch point. Growing as a pure ball tracker, but flashed plenty of positives in that regard as a junior. Can generate explosive power in the legs and plays with impressive jump timing.
- Young for his class, turns 17 in July.
- Primarily deployed as a slot receiver at the prep level, will need to continue improving play strength, technique, and contact courage before he's ready to give quality in-line reps.
- Should be viewed as an immensely high-ceiling pass catcher with an ideal blend of route-running savvy and
contested catch ability. Could eventually draw looks from NFL scouts if he keeps progressing."

Lumpris visited back in March and Alabama has been near the top of his list ever since. DeBoer and GM Courtney Morgan continue to stockpile versatile talent across the Alabama roster.
