Kalen DeBoer and Alabama are back to square one in 2028 offensive line class

The last two days have not been kind to Alabama's 2028 offensive line class.

On Monday, Huntsville native Samuel Bailey, a 4-star recruit and one of the top targets for the Crimson Tide in the cycle, announced his commitment to Florida fresh off a visit to Gainesville.

On Tuesday, Alabama's lone 2028 offensive line commitment, 4-star Anthony Blalock Jr. from Youngstown, Ohio, decommitted from the Tide:

Blalock's decision to decommit from Alabama doesn't catch anyone paying attention off guard. He hasn't been back on campus since he committed to the Crimson Tide back in July. He recently announced visit plans for the fall, and Alabama was not included.

Blalock is the second decommitment from Alabama's 2028 class in recent weeks. LB Ryquan Butler announced his decommitment earlier this month. Alabama has five players currently committed in that class.

Where does Alabama turn at offensive line for the 2028 cycle after Anthony Blalock's decommitment?

Alabama only has one offensive lineman committed in the 2027 cycle after adding 11 guys up front via the 2026 cycle and the Transfer Portal this past offseason. All 11 had multiple years of eligibility remaining, though 4-star OL Chris Booker is no longer with the program.

The expectation is that Alabama will look to sign a full offensive line class again in 2028.

Led by offensive line coach Adrian Klemm, Alabama's offensive line has been massively improved so far during the 2026 season. There's proof of concept that DeBoer and his staff can now pitch to the top recruits in the country.

Of course, figuring out the future of the coaching at that position will be important. Klemm signed just a one-year contract with Alabama after spending last season as an analyst for USC. I would assume, based on the success the Tide's offensive line has seen, there would be high interest on DeBoer's end to bring Klemm back for next season and into the future.

247 shows 29 offers for offensive linemen in the 2028 cycle for Alabama. One of the top priorities is 4-star Huntsville native Joey Fleming, who has already picked up crystal ball projections to land in Tuscaloosa.

5-star OT Antijuan Wilkes from Detroit is another priority target for the Crimson Tide.

As far as the others, we'll have to wait and see. Not all offers are created equally, especially when you are this far out from prospects being able to put pen to paper and sign with schools.
