Even with a loaded slate of college football games on Saturday, November 7th, the expectation was that Alabama's road trip to Baton Rouge to face off against LSU would get the primetime ABC treatment.

Instead, it was announced on Monday that Alabama and LSU would kick off at 2:30 pm CT:

That's a significant break for Alabama. Tiger Stadium is a challenging place to play no matter the kick time, but an afternoon game won't produce the same raucous environment as an evening kick time would.

Death Valley has rarely been intimidating for Alabama football in the past

One of the only teams in the country that has been impervious to Death Valley's intimidation has been Alabama. And that wasn't a Nick Saban thing; that's something that has transcended eras for the Crimson Tide.

This will be the 44th time Alabama has traveled to Baton Rouge to face LSU. The Crimson Tide holds an all-time record of 30-10-3 in Death Valley.

That includes a 1-0 mark for Kalen DeBoer. He is 2-0 against LSU in his first two tries, and he led Alabama into Baton Rouge in 2024, where the Tide walked away with a dominant 42-13 victory.

Perhaps the best example of Death Valley not being a scary road game for Alabama was the 2002 matchup where a Dennis Franchione-led Tide team dominated a Nick Saban-coached LSU squad 31-0 at Tiger Stadium.

After losing to LSU in Baton Rouge in 1969, Alabama went on 15 consecutive trips to Death Valley without suffering a defeat. That included 14 wins and a single tie in 1985 before Alabama fell short 30-28 in 2000 during Saban's first season with the Tigers.

There's a reason Alabama fans refer to it as Bryant-Denny West.

This will be the first matchup for DeBoer against Lane Kiffin as head coaches. Alabama hasn't faced Kiffin since the 2023 season, when he was still at Ole Miss. Kiffin undoubtedly feels miffed about not getting a look at the head coaching job at Alabama when Saban retired in January of 2024. He'll do everything he can, pulling out all the stops, to try and beat Alabama in two weeks.

But Alabama will be healthier than they've been in weeks, and they'll arrive in Baton Rouge with plenty of motivation of their own. At 6-2, the Tide will be playing for their playoff lives.

And 12 days before the game even kicks off, the first break has already gone in Alabama's favor.
