Alabama football fans had been disappointed with the start of Transfer Portal season with a bunch of subtractions and zero additions through the first week.
That was always going to be the case, though, as Alabama had to lose more than it gained just to accommodate scholarship limitations.
Alabama landed a couple of commitments early in the week with Florida DL Kelby Collins and Utah CB Cameron Calhoun joining the Crimson Tide. On Saturday, so far Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide has landed two more commitments with a third potentially on the way as we approach a dead period beginning Sunday night.
First, Texas A&M OL Kam Dewberry announced his pledge to Alabama. Dewberry will have one season of eligibility remaining and brings a lot of experience to the Tide's offensive line room. Dewberry spent three seasons in College Station and appeared in 32 games, including eight starts.
Dewberry figures to be a factor in the competition at left guard, assuming Tyler Booker declares for the NFL Draft as many expect.
A little bit later, Alabama made an even bigger portal splash. To date, the Tide has seen four wide receivers leave via the Transfer Portal - Kendrick Law (Kentucky), Caleb Odom (Ole Miss), Kobe Prentice (Baylor), and Emmanuel Henderson Jr. (uncommitted).
Alabama wanted to improve the talent level in the WR room and add a legitimate No. 3 option next to Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard. The Tide hosted NC State's Kevin Concepcion on a visit earlier, but they narrowed in on Miami (FL) transfer Isaiah Horton, who committed to Alabama on Saturday.
Horton was in town for a visit the last couple of days. He was scheduled to travel for a visit to Texas A&M over the weekend, but ultimately stayed in Tuscaloosa and committed to the Crimson Tide.
Horton was 2nd on Miami this season in receptions with 56 and third in yards with 616, He also added five touchdown receptions. At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, he brings size to the WR room that Williams and Bernard cannot.
With the returns of Jalen Hale and Cole Adams from injury, as well as promising young players like Rico Scott, Jaren Hamilton, and Bubba Hampton to go along with two signees in the 2025 recruiting class (Derek Meadows and Lotzeir Brooks), Alabama is likely done at WR in the portal despite losing four guys and only gaining one.
There's also the potential for freshman Jaylen Mbakwe to get some snaps at WR or outright change positions from CB. The Tide will have a super-talented WR room for JaMarcus Shephard next season.
There good be more good news on the horizon this weekend too as Alabama looks to reel in Colorado LB transfer Nikhai Hill-Green, who was an All-Big 12 first-team selection in 2024.
