Kalen DeBoer and Alabama got the Jeremiah Beaman news they feared most

When Kalen DeBoer first mentioned on Monday that junior defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman had suffered an injury during Sunday's practice, we immediately feared the worst. DeBoer didn't state the extent, but how he phrased it by saying they had a good idea of what it was but were waiting for confirmation made it sound like it was likely a pretty serious injury.

Wednesday's news confirmed it.

Yea-Alabama's Andrew Bone broke the news that Beaman suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entirety of the 2026 season:

It's a brutal blow for Beaman, who had worked hard to rehab and get back from the same exact injury a year ago. Beaman missed all but one game last season. He played in the opener against Florida State, but suffered a torn ACL in practice leading up to Week 2 against UL Monroe, which cost him the rest of the year. He'll now effectively miss two consecutive seasons because of serious knee injuries.

Where does Alabama turn without Jeremiah Beaman on the defensive line?

Beaman was projected by many to be Alabama's backup nose tackle this season behind Oregon transfer Terrance Green. While not a starter, Beaman was expected to play a significant role as part of the Crimson Tide's defensive line rotation.

Alabama has more depth up front this year than it did a season ago, but this injury will still cause Kane Wommack and DL coach Freddie Roach to shuffle the deck a bit up front.

With Beaman out, the door is open for junior Steve Bolo Mboumoua to play a significant role in his second season in Tuscaloosa, but it remains to be seen whether he's ready for a major increase in snaps.

Mississippi State transfer Kedrick Bingley-Jones is the projected starter at DT, but he's likely to slide over and get more snaps at nose now that Beaman is out. Bingley-Jones' projected backup, sophomore London Simmons, could also see snaps at the zero technique.

This could lead to increased roles for others along the defensive line, like Edric Hill, Isaia Faga, Fatutoa Henry, and perhaps a freshman like Nolan Wilson.

While Alabama has the depth to withstand a long-term injury, it's still not ideal to lose a rotational player along the defensive front before the season even gets started.

More so than that, however, you just feel bad for Beaman. He's worked his butt off to get back on the field, and another season lost to serious injury has to be incredibly discouraging for the Birmingham native.

Hopefully, he'll make a full recovery and get the opportunity to live up to his immense potential.
