Aeryn “Bubba” Hampton was a four-star recruit in Alabama’s 2024 class and played 15 offensive snaps across three games for the Crimson Tide last season. He has yet to see the field this season, however, and in his Tuesday teleconference with the media, Kalen DeBoer explained why, confirming that Hampton has not been with the team since “early fall camp.”

DeBoer did not provide any further information as to why Hampton and the team parted ways.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound freshman hauled in just one reception for six yards last season. He was the 227th overall recruit in the country according to 247Sports Composite Rankings, the 37th-ranked recruit in Texas, and was heavily recruited by Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns.

Hampton played both ways in high school in Dangerfield, Texas, but was buried on Alabama’s wide receiver depth chart in 2024 with Washington transfer Germie Bernard and fellow class of 2024 freshman Ryan Williams emerging as Jalen Milroe’s top two targets.
With Bernard and Williams both back on the roster for the 2025 season with first-year starting quarterback Ty Simpson, Hampton likely fell further down the pecking order throughout the offseason. The Tide flipped five-star cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe to wide receiver, welcomed Miami (FL) transfer Isaiah Horton, and saw the emergence of true freshman Rico Scott after his early enrollment.
So far this season, 14 different players have caught passes for Alabama, many of those receptions coming in the Tide’s 73-0 Week 2 blowout win over Louisiana Monroe. Lotzeir Brooks, Cole Adams, and Derek Meadows are also young emerging players for DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb on the outside.
Assuming DeBoer and Courtney Morgan keep the class together, Alabama will also be adding even more wide receiver talent to the roster with the 2026 recruiting class, which features five-star playmaker Cedarian Morgan from Alexander City, Alabama. Three-stars Brian Williams and Owen Caball are also 2026 commits.
Hampton may intend to enter the transfer portal in the winter window to continue his football career elsewhere. Still, without additional information from DeBoer regarding the reason he’s no longer with the program, it’s impossible to speculate about his future.
