One of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend on a visit.

5-star CB John Meredith III, ranked as the No. 1 CB and the No. 3 overall player in the country per the 247 composite, will attend Alabama's game against Vanderbilt on Saturday:

Alabama will be looking to gain momentum in Meredith's recruitment early and, hopefully, build on what has been the best defensive back recruiting in the country the last two cycles.

Led by DBs coach Maurice Linguist, the Crimson Tide has stacked a ridiculous amount of talent at defensive back. In the 2025 cycle, Alabama signed 5-star CB Dijon Lee and added 4-star CB Chuck McDonald and 4-star safety Ivan Taylor.

In the 2026 class, Alabama holds commitments from two 5-star DBs: safety Jireh Edwards and CB Jorden Edmonds. 4-star corner Zyan Gibson is also a highly-regarded 2026 defensive back in the class.

Linguist has been an excellent recruiter and developer since he arrived in Tuscaloosa, and Alabama will have one of the best defensive back rooms in college football regardless of what Meredith ultimately chooses to do.

John Meredith III is an elite CB that Alabama will throw the kitchen sink at

Meredith is a bigger corner and fits the mold of what Linguist and defensive coordinator Kane Wommack seems to prefer in corners. He's tall and lengthy at 6-foot-2. He was recently evaluated by 247's Director of Scouting, Andrew Ivins, who had this to say:

"- Height/weight/speed corner who can play press man and off man.
- Competent in trail technique and possesses the deep speed to recover like few others.
- Extremely twitchy in the lower half.
- Narrow, but not invisible against the run and will fight through blocks.
- Track speed shows in pads.
- As of junior year, among the top prospects in Texas and the country for the 2027 class."

Meredith's recruitment will be hotly contested. All the top programs are after him, and you can bet that Steve Sarkisian and Mike Elko are going to do their best not to let him leave the state of Texas.

Alabama is an early contender, with Texas, Texas A&M, SMU, Ohio State, and Penn State considered the top programs to watch for Meredith right now. It's still incredibly early in the process, however, and a lot can and will change over the next year before the signing period for the 2027 class.

Alabama will try to make a big move this weekend on his visit.
