Kalen DeBoer has Alabama positioned to land local EDGE after recent offer

Kalen DeBoer and Alabama had to pivot at EDGE in the 2027 cycle after swinging and missing at its top target - 4-star KJ Green, who committed to LSU while on his visit to Baton Rouge. While there are other high-end targets on the board for Alabama, like Tennessee native Antwan Jackson, who the Crimson Tide is still favored to land, Jackson is more of a Bandit than a Wolf in Kane Wommack's defensive system.

Alabama needs more numbers at the Wolf spot. With Yhonzae Pierre expected to head to the draft following this season, Alabama will be down to just Justin Hill and 5-star freshman hybrid Xavier Griffin, who can play both on and off-ball LB.

The numbers have to increase at the position, even though the Wolf/Bandit can be somewhat interchangeable in this system now, something we'll see a lot more of in 2026, no doubt.

Alabama's pivot included a recent offer to a local talent. Composite 3-star Jeremiah Beverly, a Tuscaloosa native from nearby Hillcrest High School, earned an offer from his hometown school earlier this week after impressing the coaching staff at camp. Things appear to be moving very quickly in his recruitment.

Alabama predicted to land 3-star EDGE Jeremiah Beverly by recruiting expert

Beverly is a bit undersized for an EDGE at 6-foot-1.5 and 233 pounds, but DeBoer and the staff saw something they liked enough during the camp to extend an offer to him. That offer has clearly been met with extreme enthusiasm by Beverly, as you might expect for a kid who grew up in Tuscaloosa in the shadow of Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Per 247's Brett Greenberg, after initially planning to take an official visit to the Capstone sometime in the fall, he's moved that trip up to next weekend:

Beverly will be on commit watch the moment he steps foot on campus.

Rivals recruiting expert Chad Simmons logged his prediction for Beverly to land with the Crimson Tide on Friday night with a high degree of confidence, per the Rivals Prediction Machine.

It seems to be a matter of just when - not if - Beverly will ultimately commit to the Tide. His commitment won't move the needle much in the rankings for Alabama's class or for impatient Crimson Tide fans who have been disappointed by the lack of aggression on the recruiting trail for this cycle, but Beverly is the type of guy that's impossible not to root for. And in this pay-for-play era, this is a kid who wants to play for Alabama because he loves Alabama.

Beverly has other offers, at smaller schools, no doubt, but he could probably get a bigger piece of the revenue share pie at those places than he's going to get to come to Alabama. That's nothing in comparison to him getting the chance to live out what has prob
