Alabama fans are rejoicing Sunday after their 24-21 win over Georgia. There were some blemishes the Tide are going to have to work on before they take on Vanderbilt next week, but once again, Kalen DeBoer and Alabama take down another ranked team.
The fanbase should put the pitchforks away and stop calling for his firing after snapping Georgia's 33-game win streak at home. Some fans may point out and credit the black hoodie superstition that has surrounded the coach for the big win this past weekend. Reminiscent of a certain lucky cut-off hoodie that another great coach used to wear up in New England. It could also be the fact that the Tide got a wakeup call week one, and the pressure from fans has lit a fire underneath them.
Whatever fans would like to conclude for the turnaround the Tide has had since they started 0-1, one thing is for sure: DeBoer has earned the right to be the coach at Alabama this season.
How many other candidates out there can take down Georgia in back-to-back seasons, with two completely different QBs? DeBoer improves to 7-1 against Top 10 teams and 16-3 against the AP Top 25. How many other coaches across college football can claim those similar numbers? Yeah, the loss to Florida State was ugly, and there are still questions about Alabama's rushing defense with Diego Pavia coming to town next week, but the Tide showed that they can compete with some of the best teams in college football.
Fans still can remember the 40-35 devastating loss last year to Vanderbilt, but they should find some comfort knowing the Commodores will be stepping onto Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium as the #16-ranked team in the country. That should bode well for Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.
