With all the moving parts in today's world of college football, your off-the-field hires can be just as important as your on-field.
Kalen DeBoer recently completed his on-field staff for 2026 by hiring Adrian Klemm (offensive line) and Richard Owens (tight ends). Now, his focus has shifted to front office roles, of which the Crimson Tide has had a few vacancies.
According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, Alabama is expected to hire both Stephen Wise and Alex Mathis to front office roles:
Alabama is expected to hire Arizona #Cardinals scout Stephen Wise and Georgia Tech executive director of recruiting Alex Mathis as members of its front office, sources tell @CBSSports.

Wise was most recently a scout for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals for the past five years. Prior to that, he was a recruiting assistant for South Carolina for four years, so he brings some SEC experience with him.
Mathis was most recently the executive director of recruiting for Georgia Tech, a position he also held at UCF before taking the job in Atlanta. Mathis is a former high school coach with extensive ties to the state of Georgia, which has long been a hotbed for Alabama recruiting. DeBoer and company signed two of the top players in the state of Georgia in the 2026 cycle in LB Xavier Griffin and CB Jorden Edmonds.
It has not yet been reported which roles Wise and Mathis are expected to fill in Alabama's front office. The most prominent vacant role is the assistant director of player personnel, which was vacated when Eron Hodges followed JaMarcus Shephard to Oregon State to become the Beavers' General Manager.
Alabama also recently lost assistant director of player personnel Jerret McElwain to Kentucky. He joined Will Stein's staff to become the director of player personnel.
Those are likely the positions that Wise and Mathis will fill, though confirmation will likely come much later on.
