Kalen DeBoer may be zeroing in on his 2028 QB in prospect with tremendous upside

Just a few days after landing 5-star Elijah Haven for the 2027 class, Kalen DeBoer may have already identified Alabama's 2028 signal-caller.

Kalen DeBoer's ability to identify and evaluate quarterbacks is well-documented. Before arriving in Tuscaloosa, he already had a reputation for it by turning unheralded guys like Jake Haener and Michael Penix Jr. into capable NFL quarterbacks.

His development of Ty Simpson, who looked like a deer in headlights in 2023, into one of the top QBs in the country and the No. 13 overall pick in the NFL Draft was another feather in his cap.

On Saturday, Alabama landed a commitment from 5-star Elijah Haven, marking the third consecutive recruiting class in which DeBoer wrangled in a 5-star QB. With his 2027 QB class complete with Haven and in-state 4-star Trent Seaborn, DeBoer and his staff have already turned their attention to the 2028 cycle and might have quickly zeroed in on an under-the-radar recruit with tremendous upside.

2028 QB Charles Scott Jr. from Richmond, VA picked up an Alabama offer on April 1st. Bama247's Brett Greenberg logged an expert prediction on Monday for Scott to ultimately commit to the Crimson Tide.

A Crystal Ball pick is in for Alabama to land 2028 QB Charles Scott Jr.

Obviously, it's very early in the process, and any commitments or predictions should be taken with a grain of salt. There's a lot of recruiting to be done between now and December of 2027. But jumping on Scott early could pay long-term dividends.

The Richmond native has unreal size, listed at 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, and he's finishing up his sophomore year of high school right now. He's no novelty, however.

Scott had a tremendous sophomore season, throwing for just shy of 3600 yards with 41 touchdowns and four interceptions.

It's early in the 2028 process, and Scott isn't yet ranked, but that won't be the case for much longer. His recruitment has really started heating up this spring, with both Alabama and Georgia offering him in the last month. With those two heavyweights pursuing him, you can bet that there will be ramped-up interest from across the country soon enough.
