Kalen DeBoer's buyout is no object for Powerball-hopeful Alabama fan

Alabama fans aren't happy with Kalen DeBoer, if you didn't know. Following last week's two-touchdown loss to Florida State, the Crimson Tide is now just 5-5 in its last 10 games. They are just 1-5 in their last six games played away from Bryant-Denny Stadium.

It has been a rough week for DeBoer. Alabama fans far and wide have been calling for his head, despite his tenure lasting only 14 games so far. The Tide has fallen far from the end of the Nick Saban era to the beginning of the DeBoer era.

We are only one game into the 2025 season, with plenty of time to turn things around. But Alabama fans have little faith that things are going to get better with time. They've seen enough. For some, they're daydreaming about winning the nearly $2 billion Powerball jackpot, for the main reason of paying off DeBoer's buyout.

Priority one: DeBoer's buyout. Priority two: everything else.

Kalen DeBoer has lost the Alabama fanbase already

Some hopped off the DeBoer train last season after Alabama's dismal performance against Oklahoma in November. Some were already off of it after the loss to Vanderbilt. The vast majority of the rest leaped off following last weekend's lifeless performance in Tallahassee.

DeBoer's buyout could be the only thing that saves him this season. I don't foresee a complete, Mike Dubose-like bottoming out for the Crimson Tide this season. The team is too talented for that to happen. But an 8-4 season would still be considered disastrous for a team with National Championship expectations.

But DeBoer's buyout is significant. It doesn't have to be paid out in a lump sum; instead, it would be equal monthly installments. But the amount remains the same. Alabama would owe him 90% of his remaining contract balance anytime they decide to make a move.

Unfortunately for Greg Byrne, he's not safe from the vitriol, either. The Powerball-hopeful above mentioned paying Byrne's buyout, too. Byrne has been a good Athletic Director for Alabama. He hit a home run with the hiring of Nate Oats for the basketball program. But his tenure was always going to be remembered for the only thing that mattered to so many Alabama fans: the hiring of Nick Saban's replacement.

Early returns have been below average, if not quite the outright disaster some want to believe.
