The 2027 class for Alabama has been a disappointment, at least from an outside perspective. Inside the building, it's been about what was expected. Kalen DeBoer and Courtney Morgan have a roster-building plan for the Crimson Tide, and this class was always going to be smaller with less money allotted for the elite targets.
That doesn't mean they haven't swung and missed at some top targets. They have. Guys like Monshun Sales, Mitchell Turner, and Hayden Stepp were all difficult misses.
But it's clear early that the 2028 class is going to garner the same attention from the Alabama staff that the 2025 and 2026 classes did. And they're off to an incredible start.
They added to that on Sunday with a surprise commitment from the No. 1 player in the state of Delaware.

Alabama lands commitment from elite 2028 EDGE Tysir Young
Young is Alabama's seventh commitment already in the 2028 class. This is as fast a start as DeBoer and company have ever gotten off to in a recruiting cycle. While there's a long way to the finish line for the 2028 cycle, it's hard not to be highly optimistic with this start.
Young's commitment furthers Alabama's stranglehold on the No. 1 class. It's early, but the Tide is well out in front right now.
Alabama has added four commitments for 2028 in the month of July alone. 3-star LB Ryquan Butler got the party started, followed by elite in-state QB Kingston Preyear. The Tide added 4-star OL Anthony Blalock Jr. a couple of weeks ago, and now Young joined the fray this weekend.
Young took a spring visit to Tuscaloosa after picking up an offer from the Crimson Tide back in March. He's a high-level recruit, ranked as the No. 105 overall recruit in the 2028 class. His offer list is exactly what you would expect.
Young held offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M, among several others.
The quick start to the 2028 class has offset some of the anxiety from the 2027 cycle. While that has been a difficult class to stomach for Alabama fans, the hot start to 2028 has lessened the blow some already, allowing fans to see that DeBoer and his staff have a plan in place that they are executing.
