Kalen DeBoer and Alabama just landed yet another elite quarterback. 4-star QB Kingston Preyear, a top 50 overall player and the No. 4 QB in the 2028 class, committed to Alabama on Friday, choosing the Crimson Tide over Florida and Vanderbilt.
Preyear is one of the premier players in the state for the 2028 cycle, and he strengthened Alabama's hold on the No. 1 class with his commitment.
Crimson Tide fans - and plenty in the national media - have legitimate questions about DeBoer's ability to lead this program forward. One thing that is certainly not in question is his ability to recruit - and develop - at the QB position.
That was the biggest selling point for Preyear.
"They can develop the crap out of a quarterback," Preyear told On3's Chad Simmons.
Kingston Preyear points to Kalen DeBoer, Alabama's track record of developing QBs
Either way you slice it, if you look at just Alabama or just DeBoer, you can't go wrong with either's ability to develop a QB.
Alabama's last six quarterbacks have all been drafted in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft: Jalen Hurts (2nd), Tua Tagovailoa (1st), Mac Jones (1st), Bryce Young (1st), Jalen Milroe (3rd), and Ty Simpson (1st).
That streak seems likely to continue with former No. 2 overall high school recruit Keelon Russell the favorite to win Alabama's starting job this fall.
DeBoer has an impressive track record in his own right. In four seasons as a Power Four head coach, he's already produced two first-round picks at the QB position. He had Michael Penix at Washington and then Simpson last year.
That history resonates with recruits.
A tip of the hat must go to new QB coach Bryan Ellis, too. He's hit the ground running since being moved from coaching Alabama's TEs to QBs after Nick Sheridan departed after the season to take over as Michigan State's offensive coordinator.
Ellis built a strong relationship with 5-star Elijah Haven, who is the headliner for the Crimson Tide's 2027 class. Sheridan was a big driving force in that recruitment, so Ellis' ability to forge that bond was pivotal in landing Haven.
Preyear didn't hesitate to give credit to Ellis when he announced his commitment on ESPN2.
"The relationship with Coach Grubb and Coach Ellis, the consistency with Coach Ellis," Preyear said when talking about his decision. "He's been real since day one. They have a development plan for me, and I feel like I can go there and bring a national championship to Alabama."
