The Dallas Cowboys may have landed one of Day three's more quietly impactful picks when selecting Alabama defensive lineman LT Overton in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. While mid-round selections are often viewed as developmental depth, Overton arrives in Dallas with a clear path to early snaps, stepping into a defensive front that has opportunity and expectation along their interior.

This opportunity comes as Dallas looks to replace one of their most impactful players at Overton's position after trading Cowboys defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers in March, as noted by Jerry Trotta over at The Landry Hat.

At 6-foot-3 and 274 pounds, Overton brings a blend of size, leverage, and versatility that fits the Cowboys' need for disruption inside. His arrival also aligns with a broader schematic transition under newly hired defensive coordinator Christian Parker, as Dallas shifts from a traditional 4-3 base to a more multiple 3-4 structure in 2026, where flexible defensive linemen who can reduce inside or kick outside become more valuable.

Overton's college production at Alabama under Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack showed his capabilities to fit this role, reflecting as a player whose impact extended beyond traditional stat lines. Over two seasons in Tuscaloosa, he accumulated 77 total tackles, including 9 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and 12 quarterback hurries, consistently flashing the disruptive ability Dallas is looking for in the wake of Odighizuwa's departure.

While not used as a full-time stat accumulator, his production profile underscores a player who consistently created pressure, held his own against SEC competition, and offers the kind of positional flexibility that translates directly to an immediate rotational role.

And as Overton returns to his home state of Texas to begin his NFL journey, there's a natural layer of familiarity that comes with this opportunity. For Dallas, it's not just about adding depth—it's betting on a player whose versatile traits and growth trajectory already align with what they plan to become defensively. For Overton, it's a chance to step into a system that needs exactly what he brings to the table, and even though coming home brings pressure, it's also a runway—and both sides are hoping that combination turns into an immediate return on investment.
