The Dolphins are continuing to clear their roster of former Crimson Tide stars.
Less than an hour after they announced the upcoming release of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are trading safety Minkah FIrzpatrick to the Jets for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Jets are going to give Fitzpatrick a three-year, $40 million contract.

The Dolphins trading Fitzpatrick is no surprise, as the new regime in Miami was shopping the three-time All-Pro, but sending him to a division opponent for a seventh-round pick that might not make the roster, is the ultimate show of disrespect.
Minkah Fitzpatrick can solidify Hall of Fame career with Jets
These days there's probably nothing a player wants less than to be traded to the Jets. It's truly a gutter franchise and as a card-carrying Jets fan since about 1980, I feel like I can say that. But at the same time, any Jets fan should be excited to get Fitzpatrick on the roster. He's still a top player in the NFL and brings the leadership that the Jets desperately need.
This is also a return home for Fitzpatrick. He is from Jersey City, New Jersey, which is right across the Hudson River from Manhattan. He played high school ball at St. Peter's Prep, where he was one of the greatest athletes to come from the area. With the Jets playing in nearby East Rutherford, Fitzpatrick will feel the love from his home base every time he suits up at MetLife Stadum.

If Fitzpatrick can continue to play at a high level, he was a Pro Bowler as recently as 2024, and spark a Jets turnaround to respectability or even a return to the playoffs, it could be the next step to him becoming a Hall of Famer. It's tough sledding for safeties to make the Hall, but Fitzpatrick has been an All-Pro three times, and he's a five-time Pro Bowler, so the credentials are strong.Â
Fitzpatrick just needs another couple of defining seasons in the NFL to get in the Hall of Fame discussion. If he can lead the lowly Jets out of the doldrums, any doubts about placing his name among legends should be erased.Â
