Nate Oats has already landed one commitment from an SEC-experienced big man out of the Transfer Portal and appears to be targeting another.

On Sunday, Kentucky transfer Brandon Garrison committed to the Crimson Tide. Late Monday evening, it was reported that Mississippi State transfer Jamarion Davis-Fleming would be in Tuscaloosa on a visit on Tuesday:

Davis-Fleming is the younger brother of Javian Davis-Fleming, who played at Alabama on Nate Oats' first Crimson Tide team in 2019-20. He ultimately transferred to Mississippi State and later UAB, where he finished his collegiate career.

The younger Davis-Fleming is a Mississippi native and was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school. Alabama was a player in his recruitment before he ultimately chose the in-state Bulldogs.

Davis-Fleming spent his freshman season as a backup big man for Mississippi State, playing around 20 minutes a night and averaging 3.7 points. 4.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.

Davis-Fleming has impressive athleticism and physical traits at a listed 6-foot-10 and 240 pounds. He's another example of Oats' changing philosophy for bigs and the Crimson Tide trying to get bigger in the frontcourt.

He won't stretch the floor, but he's excellent around the rim. He had 28 dunks as a freshman in Starkville and was 76.2% on non-dunk attempts at the rim, per Bart Torvik.

Davis-Fleming's rebounding numbers are good, and his 6.4% block rate is a solid base to work with as a true freshman rim protector.

Garrison and Davis-Fleming would bring some much-needed athleticism to the Crimson Tide frontcourt. They won't provide the same offensive upside as Aiden Sherrell, but they would potentially be a step forward on the defensive end of the floor with their athleticism and switchability.

Oats is pursuing a number of options in the frontcourt. On Saturday, Alabama hosted Tennessee transfer - and Alabama legacy - Cade Phillips. It would seem likely that Phillips and Davis-Fleming would be an either/or scenario, as Oats also makes a major push for Syracuse transfer forward Donnie Freeman.
