Nick Saban calls out college football as a whole when it comes to coaching problems

When it came to the topic of Lane Kiffin, Nick Saban didn't have much to say about his former coordinator, but instead had a lot to say about the problem that college football has caused.

When former Alabama head coach Nick Saban began coaching in college football, it looked vastly different from what it does now. Players weren't paid, there was no such thing as NIL, and the transfer portal was not even a thought.

College coaches were also allowed to finish a season before being talked to about taking another job, and coaches were also typically allowed to finish a season before getting fired. Well, now all of that is different as college football has gone through so many changes throughout the years, some that resulted in Saban getting out of the game and retiring.

Now, Saban is a strong voice on ESPN's College GameDay, especially when it comes to the problems in the sport today. When talking about the craziness around coaching vacancies, mainly Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and how much programs like Florida and LSU are going after him, Saban didn't want to talk about his former coordinator, but instead addressed the bigger issue.

Nick Saban blames college football as a whole for coaching noise int he midde of the season

Ole Miss still has one more game this season, with the Rebels being on bye this week. They still have to play in the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State and then potentially host a game in the College Football Playoff.

At this point, though, Ole Miss players can't focus on playing football when everything in the news is talking about thier head coach leaving, and even potentially leaving them before the CFP. Nick Saban has seen enough and called out college football as a whole as the true problem behind it all.

"This is not a Lane Kiffin conundrum, this is a college football conundrum," Saban said on College GameDay. "We need some leadership to step up and change the rules."

Saban believes there should be some sort of rules in place to help protect the minds of the players during the season. The former Alabama coach believes that coaches shouldn't be allowed to be contacted while a team is still in the middle of the season, just like how it is in the NFL.

Right now, programs are so worried about securing a coach before signing day or the transfer portal opens because without one, there is no way to bring in top-tier players. This kind of athletic calendar is what has caused the problems that we are seeing now, and Saban is over it.

Once a guy with the level of success like Saban is talking about it, you know it is a problem, and it doesn't feel like this is going to go away anytime soon.
