Nick Saban has to admire the ingenuity from this team's Week 1 depth chart

Nothing used to get Nick Saban more fired up than being forced to release a depth chart. The one released by Utah State on Monday had to make him crack a smile.

Nick Saban hates depth charts.

They were the bane of his existence during his legendary run at Alabama. He hated having to release them before the first game. He thought they did nothing more than sow dissension in the locker room and never actually gave an accurate representation of who was going to play in any given game.

His complaining about being made to release them was an annual tradition in Tuscaloosa.

Saban actually didn't release a depth chart prior to Alabama's 2023 season - his final on the sideline.

His disdain for depth charts would have made him thoroughly enjoy the depth chart released by Utah State on Monday ahead of the Aggies' season opener:

Hopefully we get Nick Saban's reaction to this on College GameDay this weekend

A depth chart totally blank, aka Nick Saban's dream. My only hope with this is that Saban gets to see it. Rece Davis tends to be pretty plugged into what's happening, so hopefully he brings it up this weekend on College GameDay to get Saban's reaction. He'd probably let out a similarly wry smile like the one he couldn't contain following Alabama's successful surprise onside kick against Clemson in the National Championship Game 10 years ago.

As much as Saban did/will enjoy this depth chart release by Utah State, I'm sure deep down he's just a little bit jealous that he didn't think of this himself once during his legendary coaching career. Had he, I think this would have been something he would have done during his time in Tuscaloosa.

It's probably best that he didn't - it certainly would have drawn the ire of Miss Terry, who used to give him grief for how disgruntled he would behave in front of the media at times.

But this would have been worth it.

If and when Saban sees this, I'm sure he'll reach out to Utah State head coach Bronco Mendenhall and commend him for his ingenuity.
