It didn't take long for Nick Saban to show his frustration with what he saw out of the Alabama football team in the Week 1 loss to Florida State. You just knew Saban was going to be asked about the game while he was on with ESPN leading up to Bill Belichick's debut with North Carolina.
So, what was it that bothered Saban about the performance to start the 2025 season? It was no question the fact that the Seminoles, who entered the game as 14-point underdogs, dominated the battle in the trenches. Yup, the Florida State offensive line was superior and its defensive line looked stellar too. That should never be the case for any team going up against the Tide:

“For me, and a lot of Alabama fans, the disappointment is that Florida State dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.”pic.twitter.com/pInWzksCMI
Nick Saban called out Alabama's lack of toughness up front against Florida State
What makes this even worse for Alabama is that Saban doesn't even look mad here. Instead, he looks like a disappointed dad who just saw one of his kids do something foolish. That's exactly what happened with Alabama in Tallahassee.
We've made it quite clear how concerning that performance was, as Florida State continued to land jabs on the Tide. Where was the response from the team? It seemed like whenever adversity was in front of Alabama, the players folded a bit. That's not what anyone is used to seeing.
Following the loss, the future of Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa has never been less clear. He was on the hot seat after losing four games in 2024 and now that Week 1 ended with a nightmare, people are calling for him to be fired once again.
Saban isn't on that list, as he knows the locker room has what it takes to turn things around and still make this a season to remember. That could turn out to be the case, but until a convincing win can be posted, the morale for the Alabama fanbase remains down in the dumps. It's going to be on DeBoer to change that and do so quickly.
