It's not often that Alabama and Ohio State can find common ground.
It's no secret that, despite not being traditional rivals, there's no love lost between the fanbases of two of the sport's most preeminent blue blood programs.
So it's always eye-opening when someone with an Ohio State background has something positive to say about anything Alabama-related.
Ex-Ohio State RB Beanie Wells, the 4th most prolific rusher in Buckeyes history and a first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, is a big fan of Alabama QB Ty Simpson, sharing an eye-opening comparison and a sharp warning to NFL teams ahead of next week's draft.
"I think the NFL would be absolutely crazy to let him get out of the first round," Wells said, via CBS Sports College Football. ..."He has the highest ceiling of any QB in the draft. He has a big arm. He reminds me of Josh Allen."
Beanie Wells compares Ty Simpson to Josh Allen and implores NFL teams to draft him
Comparing Simpson to NFL MVP Josh Allen is probably a stretch. Simpson doesn't have the same size, arm strength, or power as a runner that the Bills QB has, but the fact that Wells is a believer in Simpson is a nice change of pace from the narrative that has been spun the last few weeks about the Crimson Tide product.
Coming off impressive performances at both the NFL Combine and Alabama's Pro Day, Simpson looked like a sure-fire lock to be selected in the first round of the draft. Since the, however, there have been plenty of outspoken analysts who question Simpson as a first rounder, particularly due to his lack of starts at the collegiate level.
Simpson does have his fair share of believers, however, such as former quarterbacks Dan Orlovsky and Chase Daniel.
You can now add Beanie Wells to that list, too.
