The last time the Alabama Crimson Tide had no player selected in the first round of an NFL Draft was 2008. Coming off Nick Saban's first season in Tuscaloosa, the Alabama roster was so weakened that not a single Alabama player was drafted. That had happened only once since 1961. No Alabama players were drafted in 1970.
The Alabama Crimson Tide record for NFL Draft selections in a single season is 12 in the 2018 Draft. That record is not expected to be matched in this week's 2026 NFL Draft. Based on mock drafts, the Crimson Tide should have eight to ten players selected.
This Thursday, with one or two first -round selections, Alabama will fall far short of its record of six, set in the 2021 Draft. If Simpson slips and only Kadyn Proctor is a first-round pick, pundits will harp on it as another sign of an Alabama football decline.
Alabama Crimson Tide NFL Draft History
One year of Draft history is not a complete story. Going back to 2009, 140 Alabama Crimson Tide players have been drafted. No other college football program has matched that level of NFL production. With seven players drafted last year, the Alabama program has a record of 14 consecutive years with at least seven players drafted.
It is probably correct for mock drafts to project a down year for the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Draft. Of Alabama's eight to ten players projected to be draft picks, most are mocked in the fourth round or later. That was true last year as well, with four of Alabama's seven selections coming on the last day of the Draft.
Depending on whether AFL Draft selections are counted, the Crimson Tide's history is as high as 439 players drafted. The NFL count alone puts Alabama in college football's top six programs in terms of NFL Draft selections.
